Moon – A Short Film by Lalo Cura

A quiet meditation on memory, longing, and letting go.

About the Film

Elyna

Moon is a poetic reimagining of a short love story. Hugo, a young man burdened by regret, finds a portrait of himself he doesn't remember. The artist is Elyna—the person he once hurt, who has since rebuilt a life without him. As they cross paths again, the story becomes a reflection on what it means to be seen, to be broken, and to keep moving.

“We don’t always fix each other. Sometimes we just speak honestly, and that’s enough to begin again.” – Lalo Cura

Director's Statement

Hugo and the Statue

Moon is about change. It follows in the spirit of my earlier work, but here Hugo lives entirely in his head. The film blends physical and digital textures to mirror a psyche shaped by longing and collapse. This approach—what I call reactive art—lets the film reflect and reshape its viewer, walking a fine line between chaos and tenderness.

Production Notes

Death Sequence

Production began in 2022, built around an original artwork. The score and visuals emerged in tandem with the emotional arc—sometimes clashing, sometimes converging. Fire-lit objects, layered greenscreens, hand-drawn elements, and reused digital textures came together like pieces of a scattered memory.

Mother's Hand

The figure of the mother was hand-painted from stills and threaded into the story like a subconscious refrain—guiding, watching, remembering. She doesn’t explain herself. She doesn’t need to.
